Snippets of experiences

by Joyce Majiski

Last Wednesday, I was sitting and chatting with  Haruko in the trees as she was preparing her trees to cover with paper and ink. We were reflecting on some of the comments made by the other two here–about their perceptions of the space and the experience.

Then Haruko says…”Wow washing this tree down is [...]

Working with others

Joyce Majiski and Maria Luisa de Villa recently spoke about the importance of working with other artists as part of the LLAMA Project. Joyce had had the opportunity to work with Haruko and Cesar for many days as part of LLAMA’s Yukon residency. Maria Luisa had recently arrived in the north and was about to [...]

Cesar responds to Yukon News article

Letter to the editor (published August 26th in the Yukon News):

Last Friday, I was interviewed by the Yukon News (“Yukon woos ‘unwelcome’ Mexicans” Friday, August 21). I am concerned that people were given the wrong impression about how I feel about Canadians and coming to Canada.

In all of my travels to Canada [...]

Lunch with Ted Harrison

On Tuesday, four of the LLAMA Project artists were pleased to be joined for lunch at the Ted Harrison Artist Retreat (THARS) by Ted Harrison himself. Braving Crag Lake

Cesar took a dip this week in Crag Lake while staying at the Ted Harrison Artist Retreat… a fair bit cooler than the waters of his home in Mexico!

Thoughts about “environmental art” in the Yukon

Nicole Dextras as created this "Weedrobe" which uses detritus flowers and weeds to create wearable artwork. Her piece made of weeds was worn by a performer named Ivy who performed on Granville Island in the Ivy weedrobe handing out leaves with information about invasive species.

Intense conversations inform our artwork

by Joyce Majiski

Interspersed with the tranquility of THARS (Ted Harrison Artist Retreat Society)—natural sounds like the haunting cry of the loon, the sound of waves lapping on shore and wind in the aspen—are the intense conversations that revolve around migration, politics and economics. With all of the visitors we have had here in the last [...]

Reflections from Cesar (en Espanol)

by Cesar Damian
