Biography

Lorena is a mixed media artist who lives in the mountains near Oaxaca City. Lorena studied Industrial Design at the University of Mexico in the late 70’s. She focused more on painting in the 1980’s, working in different studios and exhibiting her work in Mexico. Her work was highlighted at Expo 86 in Vancouver, and soon afterwards she moved into more sculptural and ceramic based work.

Since then Lorena has exhibited extensively in Mexico as well as Europe and Canada. In 2006 she took part in a ceramic symposium in Bejing, China and has been invited to participate in the Cuban bienal in 2009.

Lorena is part of a women’s collective of artists working specifically with issues of corn and culture in Mexico. She continues to work with ceramics, sculpture and mixed media.
